I have a Sony VPCF1 laptop that has an Nvidia GeForce GT 425M/PCI/SSE2
chip set. The proprietary Nvidia driver (NVIDIA 260.19.36) loads and
runs. But I do not get direct rendering. I do not see messages in the X
server log saying it was disabled, but glxinfo says it is disabled, and
I cannot get desktop effects. And programs like the LLNL VisIt
application run dog slow.

ps: If you are getting the information remotely, it will not show the
remote stats. I see no direct rendering running glxinfo via ssh. I
cannot even see the correct glxcard.
settings. It made little difference. I can get some things faster if I
use XRender. But DRI remains off, and OpenGL unavailable.
So, I will be trying the latest version of the driver.
