I've just done a fresh install of 11.3 + updates, and I've ended up
with a system that leaves my root filesystem mounted read-only.  Has
anyone else had a  similar issue?
FYI, it looks like root is mounted read-only at first (normal), but
then never remounted rw. Did anyone fiddle with the initrd startup?
I have two time where I had a read only file system. The first when I
was using a IDE/Raid controller that openSUSE seem to not like. The
other time was I had major disc issue. It seem smart picked up on the
drive was failing, so it mark it read only. Just long enough for me to
do a dd of to an image file.
This is a different situation - it's normal for the root to be mounted
read-only initially, but it has to be remounted as read-write before
init and that is not happening.

Anyway, see bug#652960.

It seems to be happening because someone or something has stuck 'ro' in
the kernel cmd line.

Well, that was a silly problem - I copied the boot loader config from a
10.2 system which had 'read-only' in the config. I'm surprised that
the initrd script didn't remount root as read-write, but that's not
important.
